PASIR PUTEH, 10 February 2018— Forest Interactive took part in MDEC Digital Tech Open Day @ Matriculation held at Kelantan Matriculation College, an event spearheaded by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MDEC). The program aimed to inspire young Malaysians to pursue tertiary courses in the digital technology field. MDEC invited industry experts to a knowledge-sharing session where industry experts shared their journey stories and expertise to inspire the students. The Head of the Creative and Multimedia, Nurfathiyah Ramlee (Fetty), represented Forest Interactive where she shared the challenges and opportunities she experienced during the nine years of working with the company.

Kre8tif Talk Tech Open Day aligns with our CSR programme under the pillar of education called Industry Expert Knowledge Sharing. We continuously send our experts, such as our CEO or our division managers, to schools and universities to conduct sessions to help foster future innovators by providing career advice through case studies. They could apply the methodologies they have learned in the classroom. Forest Interactive conducted an activity in Kelantan last year about game development as well.

Among the speakers were Nik Naharuddin, Head IHLs Development at MDEC, Nikalus Swee Shu Luing, Programme Leader of Computer Science & Mathematics at Tuanku Abdul Rahman University College Penang. Besides that, Nur Hidayah Md Noh from Universiti Teknologi Mara Terrengganu introduced the possibility of technology in the future, and the qualifications required to pursue a computer sciences degree in universities.

Fetty said: “Based on Malaysia Digital Statics, the current total population is 31.83 million and 79% of the total population uses internet, while 75% are active media users[i]. Can you imagine the opportunities out there to create a creative digital platform? Challenge your creativity.”

To complete the digital experience, Forest Interactive distributed mini VR glasses as freebies to the attendees to let them experience a 360 VR video created exclusively for the Creative & Multimedia department. The impact had proven to be powerful as one student would share: “before I attended this event, I didn’t know about VR. Now I knew it, and I tried it.” Virtual Reality is a testament to how fast technology is and the way people look at things. In the past, people were using printed advertorial. Now in a digital era, we can let people feel our presence through VR glasses, even from our mobile phone (Damiani, Jesse: VR and AR, 2017).

“After this programme, we expect that the number of students who continue their degree in IT/software will increase. And if they don’t work in corporate, we want them to open their own business and create programs, videos, or animations,” said Nadzrul Iswandie, a lecturer at the college.

Forest Interactive is committed to spreading the positive impact of possibilities in the technology industry to the youth.
